Stephen, people like you are the problem because you assume that religion, whichever one, has a place in the office. It doesn't. Religion is something practiced by individuals in their own time and it should not be foisted on anyone else. If there is a meeting and some of the attendees don't want to eat then fine but those who normally do have refreshments at these meetings should be left to continue as before - not even asked. To do so is rude and ignorant of personal feelings on the subject of religion

Sandwiches and a flask of hot soup in the winter should suffice with a hot meal when you get home. Having experienced in the past, in a multicultural workforce, the smell of some food is nauseating so I can well understand why the management don't want to provide a microwave.

This is a marvelous idea and I do so hope it goes ahead so we can celebrate our dedicated armed forces. However, it needs to have an annual theme like a special parade or something like the Royal Tournament just for the day so everyone can join in the celebratin.

This is disgraceful. What injury to feelings? The headscarf is nothing to do with religion, it is a man made rule to keep women in the Muslim faith subservient and if this woman had any respect for herself, she would refuse to wear it never mind sue a perfectly good business woman for being sensible!
A hairdresser who always wears a scarf - ridiculous!

In a previous employment I insisted all the cleaners had to speak English and the reason for this were largely H&S. In these times of possible terorist attacks our alert system gave our warnings in English (there was never time to do all languages) and in the throes of an evacuation cleaners not understanding what was going on was detrimental to their safety. In addition, the day janitors would be asked for help by members of staff and if they could not understand and respond, they were incapable of doing their job.Safety, job satisfaction and above all employee satisfaction and development as the cleaners knew that with a better understand of the English language they could get a better job. We paid for and encouraged learning in this field. Now, was this legal, in humanitarian grounds yes I think it was and we certainly had no complaints. Some of the cleaners in fact taught us their language in return for advice on ours. Great team work!

This is absolutely disgraceful. Merit alone should decide who gets the job. We are always being lectured on not judging people by their skin colour and yet here we have a proposed law saying do just that! If the person is good enough for the job they will be awarded it even if they are purple so lets stop this nonsense now.
As for giving women a head start, they don't need it if they are any good at all.
