The linked ABI reporet stateson pagwe 12:
'• Vehicle fleet managers should consider purchasing
vehicles with highly-rated whiplash prevention systems.
This should reduce the amount of accidents, thereby
lowering insurance premiums.'
I can see that improving the design should reduce the number of claims but how does it reduce the number of accidents.
The report also states that a lot of the accidents resulting in whiplash injuries are the result of tailgating (pg7). However the reccomended actions do not include any enforement of seperation distances. It would be relativly easy to adopt speed camera technology to photograph tailgaters and provide sufficient evidence for a prosecution .

The use of different coloured helmets to identify different groups of people is quite common in different industries, For instance I have been in a Steel Works and a Power Station that both issued Green Helmets to visitors. It helps identify them as they may not be as fully aware of the risks in a particular environment as the full time staff. I have also seen helmet colours used to identify specific peopel such as first aiders and the site supervisor.
