Directors' responsibilities for health and safety
We could talk until we're blue in the face about corporate killing, and indeed many hahev since Labour first promised to address the issue in its 1997 manifesto.
Whether we're convinced by new promises made in the Queen's Speech 2004 of a draft bill to introduce a new offence of corporate killing or not, the fact is it won't change the duties of employers to ensure the health and safety of employees, visitors to work premises and third parties affected by work activities.
If anything, employers should be viewing the proposals as an opportunity to review their existing health and safety policies and procedures to ensure they meet their current duties under law. If they meet the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act then employers need not concern themselves, and corporate killing becomes a bit of a non-issue.
